Description

Dr. Stephen R. Marrone is a registered professional nurse with more than three decades of experience in the roles of educator, clinician, administrator, consultant, researcher, and scholar in healthcare and academic settings in the USA and in the Middle East. He is a Long Island University Brooklyn Campus alumnus earning his Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from the LIU School of Nursing. He also earned his Master of Science Degree in Nursing as a Cardiopulmonary Clinical Nurse Specialist from the University of Delaware and his Doctor of Education Degree in Nursing from Teachers College Columbia University Executive Program for Nurses. Dr. Marrone led the design of the first Competency-based Nursing Practice Model in a Multicultural Setting and consulted extensively throughout the Middle East to implement the program in a variety of healthcare settings.

Dr. Marrone is board certified in Nursing Professional Development, as a Nurse Executive, Advanced, and in Transcultural Nursing, Advanced. He is a Six Sigma Green Belt, a TeamSTEPPS (Team Strategies and Tools to Enhance Performance and Patient Safety) Master Trainer, a Transcultural Nursing Scholar, a Fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine, and a Leadership Fellow in the Center for Leadership Excellence of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses. Dr. Marrone’s clinical specialty is adult cardiothoracic surgical critical care and perioperative nursing and maintained certifications in Adult Critical Care Nursing and Perioperative Nursing for more than 25 years.

He has a track record of success in building and sustaining collaborative relationships with internal and external consumers to provide exceptional customer service and evidence-based care to diverse patients and their families and establishing cooperative partnerships with international schools of nursing and academic medical centers to develop joint nursing education, research, and professional practice programs.

His expertise include administering fiscally responsible service line operations and education departments within academic health systems, serving as a Magnet Program Director leading the Magnet journey in creating and sustaining a professional practice environment within which the Forces of Magnetism are evident, and leading interprofessional teams to design, implement, and evaluate Diversity and Inclusion Models within the healthcare setting. One such model was recognized as a best practice by the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE) and included in the AONE Diversity in Healthcare Organizations Toolkit.

He is skilled in quantitative and qualitative research, grant writing, outcomes measurement, evidence-based practice models, and nursing care delivery models and has been successful in securing extramural funding to support education and professional practice programs. Dr. Marrone serves as a Peer Reviewer for the Journal of Transcultural Nursing and the Journal of Clinical Nursing.

Dr. Marrone is currently President of the Transcultural Nursing Society (TCNS), International and member of the TCNS Board of Trustees. He is the LIU Harriet Rothkopf Heilbruun School of Nursing representative to the New York State Future of Nursing Action Coalition (NYSFAC) and a member of the NYSFAC Diversity Subcommittee and Committee on Advancing Nursing Leadership.
