Child Abuse and Maltreatment/Neglect Identification and Reporting (ALCX 702)
This is a two-hour workshop focused on providing students with an understanding of the physical, mental, and emotional indicators of child abuse and maltreatment/neglect. This workshop will also highlight the importance of mandated reporting and will explain the process of reporting child abuse and maltreatment/neglect to the NY State Central Register.
Course length: 2 hours
Prerequisites: Graduate mental health counseling, school counseling, and school psychology students as well as teacher education students, other mandated reporters and professionals working with children under the age of 18.
Expected Outcomes: After completion of this course, students will be able to appropriately identify and report child abuse and maltreatment/neglect. Mandated reporters will also gain a full understanding of their role under NY state law as well.

Violence Prevention in Schools (ALCX 703)
This two-hour workshop focused on providing students with an understanding of both the risk and protective factors related to school violence as well as other violence experience and perpetrated by school-aged children. The workshop will also explore age-appropriate assessments and interventions and will provide a guide for utilizing community resources for violence prevention.
Course length: 2 hours
Prerequisites: Graduate school counseling and school psychology students as well as teacher education students. The course is open other professionals working with children in a school setting.
Expected Outcomes: After completion of this course, students will be able to assess the risk of violence in school settings and create appropriate interventions aimed at preventing violence and promoting student wellness.

Harassment, Bullying, Cyber-bullying and Discrimination in Schools: Prevention and Intervention (ALCX 705)
This training will address the social patterns of harassment, bullying and discrimination, marginalization and micro aggressions, including but not limited to those acts based on a person’s actual or perceived race, color, weight, national origin, ethnic group, religion, religious practice, disability, sexual orientation, gender or sex. This training addresses these issues from a proactive position and presents the “goal” as creating an affirming educational environment for all students through addressing school culture and climate. It will also cover the identification and mitigation of harassment, bullying and discrimination; and strategies for effectively addressing problems of exclusion, bias and aggression in educational settings.
Course length: 6 hours
Prerequisites: There are no prerequisites required for this course. Students must be competent in reading and speaking English.
Expected Outcomes: Successful completion of this course, students will meet the requirements of the Dignity for All Students Acts (DASA) for the certification of school professionals.

Sharee Lewin currently holds a Master’s of Science degree in Education from LIU-Brooklyn and a New York State Certification as a School Psychologist. She obtained her undergraduate degree in Psychology from New School University and has been dedicated to servicing students with academic and emotional difficulties for many years. She is very knowledgeable and motivated in working towards the betterment of young people and the educational system. Sharee is employed as a School Psychologist at a state approved non-public school (NPS) for students with special needs and provides education and case management services for students classified as emotionally disturbed (ED). Prior to working as a full-time psychologist, she was an Educational Advocate at a non-profit agency and provided intensive support and services for children who were medically fragile, developmentally disabled and/or severely emotionally disturbed. Sharee has also worked as a foster care caseworker for SCO Family of Service and volunteered for Covenant House New York. Throughout her professional career she has been responsible for preparing and running professional staff development programs consistent with the requirements of the law, rules & regulations of New York State.
Raven Maldonado is a graduate of LIU Brooklyn’s M.S. program in Mental Health Counseling and has worked as a counselor for several years. She began her counseling career as an Advocate Counselor (AC) at South Brooklyn Community High School, an alternative high school run by both the Department of Education and Good Shepherd Services. After earning her M.S. degree in 2009, Raven began her work at the Center for Family Life as a Bilingual Family Counselor and continues to support the Center to this day. The Mental Health Counseling M.S. program at LIU undoubtedly helped shape Raven’s career as a counselor and it is now her new mission to guide and motivate students to create successful careers as counselors as well.
Michael Ng is the Environmental Health and Safety Manager at LIU Brooklyn’s Buildings and Grounds Department. He has 5 years of experience in fire safety and hazard communication training with laboratory personnel and has previously worked for the NYPD Auxiliary Police / Patrol Support Unit as an emergency responder. He graduated from LIU Brooklyn with a Bachelors of Science in Chemistry and holds the following certifications; 40 Hour HAZWOPER Certificate, 30 Hour OSHA Construction Card, RCRA Hazardous Waste Management, FDNY Certificate of Fitness for the Supervision of Non-Production Chemical Laboratories.
Alicia N. Robinson
Alicia N. Robinson attained a Master’s of Science in Education from LIU-Brooklyn majoring in Guidance Counseling and is currently provisionally certified in that position. She also holds a Master’s of Public Administration from MCNY. Alicia attained her undergraduate degree in Philosophy for Baruch College. She has worked in the Social Services field for most of her career. Alicia has worked with clients at Verizon as an Operator and Administrative Assistant, at WIN Homeless Shelter as a Counselor, at New York City Administration for Children’s Services (NYCACS) as a Child Protective Specialist and Child Protective Specialist Supervisor and currently at the New York City Department of the Board of Education (NYCDOE) as a Substitute. Her major goal is to continue to be a productive part of society.
Doris Saulters is a graduate of LIU Brooklyn’s M.S. program in School Counseling and is currently a counselor at Elmont Memorial High School. Doris has been counseling for several years and her experience is diverse, just as the populations she has worked with. Doris has worked with students of diverse cultural groups, ages, and special needs in non-for-profit organizations, middle schools, high schools, and college settings. She has an unrelenting passion for preparing students for a successful post high school career; specializing in college counseling, character education, and the enhancement of social and emotional development of middle and high school age girls. Doris’ practical knowledge helps bring relevancy to lectures, and make real-word connections to what students learn in the classroom.
Christina Scheinberg is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and a Credentialed Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC). Christina received her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at Boston University and her Masters in Mental Health Counseling at Suffolk University in Boston, Massachusetts. Throughout Christina’s career she has provided mental health counseling services to children, adolescents, adults, couples and families, most of whom have chronic mental illness, trauma, anxiety, depression and substance abuse histories. While she continues her counseling work, she looks forward to helping other students on developing their own careers.
