Heather Lonks
Electronic Media
Class of 2011
Heather Lonks was a big fan of the band Good Charlotte, but when she watched the band taping an MTV appearance as a freshman, she found herself more fascinated with the production than the performance. Within weeks she was on the staff of PTV, the campus television station at C.W. Post. While pursuing her major in print and broadcast journalism, Heather produced and directed programs for PTV and worked in internships at WABC and on the “Big Brian the Fortune Seller” show at Atlas Media Corp. She plans to attend graduate school and wants to make historical documentaries, like her senior project on the Civil War draft riots in New York City.
“I want people in New York to realize that they walk past history every day,” she said. “PTV has been my home away from home. The people here are so cool – we’re like a family. The Media Arts department at C.W. Post is amazing. But I’m also inspired by courses I’ve taken outside my major, like an Honors Program course in Activism in the Digital Age. C.W. Post has given me so many opportunities to learn the field of TV production, and so many ideas about what kinds of shows to produce.”
