Advanced Certificate in Educational Leadership (School Building Leader)

The Advanced Certificate in Educational Leadership is a 30 credit post-master’s program that leads to eligibility for New York State certification as a School District Leader (SDL) and/or School Building Leader (SBL). It may also assist the graduate in meeting the requirements for superintendent and principal in New Jersey. The program is designed to prepare personnel at the school and district level to:

  1. Develop insight into and understanding of theories of leadership; particularly as they relate to decision-making and curriculum work;
  2. Understand and develop human relationship techniques;
  3. Use research methods for evaluating, understanding and improving programs;
  4. Analyze the influence of the power structure on the operation and administration of public schools;
  5. Understand school laws, personnel and business concepts;
  6. Apply theories, knowledge and skills learned through an intensive administrative internship.
