Overview of the Rockland Graduate Campus

The Rockland Graduate Campus is recognized as the County's premier provider of master's degree programs for adults with course offerings in business administration, education, health administration, mental health and school counseling, and pharmacy. Flexible course schedules have been a hallmark of success at the Rockland Graduate Campus. Courses are offered in the late afternoons, evenings, and on weekends to afford working students an opportunity to balance their educational objectives with family and business demands.

The Campus is one of six campuses that make up Long Island University, which is the eighth largest private university in the country, measured by enrollment. Today's full service Rockland Graduate Campus evolved from the original extension site that opened in 1980 to meet the emerging educational needs of the growing Hudson Valley area, into a regional campus dedicated to maintaining and enhancing its present programs while concurrently assessing the future educational needs of area residents. The Campus offers eleven majors and six advanced certificate programs to nearly 500 students.

The Rockland Graduate Campus steadfastly adheres to the University's commitment to educate each of its students one at a time in an experienced enriched environment conducive to personal growth and professional development. Classes are small and intimate; students receive considerable personal attention and advisement.

Rockland is primarily a teaching campus, offering academic and professional programs of study that address the personal and career needs of the residents of Rockland and Orange counties, the Hudson Valley and bordering New Jersey counties.

This specialized and tailored approach to education has been made possible through the Rockland Graduate Campus' ability to utilize and incorporate the resources of a major university while providing the atmosphere and personal services of a small college. Each curriculum was designed to help the student acquire and refine professional skills, as well as to increase appreciation and understanding of cultural values.

Central to the continued success and evolution of the Rockland Graduate Campus has been the consistent availability and mix of a distinguished and seasoned faculty who enrich and challenge our students. Faculty are drawn from Long Island University's Brooklyn and C.W. Post Campuses and from practitioners in the education business and professional communities. Many faculty members have more than a decade of service to the programs at the Rockland Graduate Campus. A strong and consistent governance, the participation of a diverse faculty, University-wide support and the overwhelming enthusiasm of our students and our alumni have each contributed and shaped its growth. The Campus provides academic and career counseling, a modern library, up to date computer facilities and a professional scholarship program for part time graduate study.

The Career and Professional Development Program at the Rockland Graduate Campus offers students a variety of services and activities to assist them with their career endeavors. An Employment Bulletin Board is maintained with listings of numerous job announcements from local and area schools, agencies and corporations. The Career and Professional Development Program also provides students with conference and professional association membership information, as well as applications and materials on fellowships, scholarships, grants research opportunities, resume evaluations and workshops.
