Back to Sustainable Indicators: A Review of National Methods and Suggestions for Long Island

CONCLUSIONS

Starting an indicator process can seem overwhelming but, by using the bountiful information available and taking the process step by step, it is manageable. Refer to the attached bibliography to get more information for starting your project. For example, see Maureen Hart's Guide to Sustainable Community Indicators for additional tips on selecting indicators. Along with the Institute for Sustainable Development, good resources for sustainability on Long Island include Planning for a Sustainable Long Island (Huntington), the Long Island Progressive Coalition (Massapequa), and Group for the South Fork (Bridgehampton).

This is the first of several reports that are planned for publication by the Institute for Sustainable Development at Long Island University. Please contact the Institute for more information. The Institute for Sustainable Development is also available to help facilitate indicator projects and to do indicator education workshops in your community.
