ROOM SELECTION INFORMATION
Housing Applications for the Fall 2020 are now live. Room Selection for returning and new students is now open.
You will reside in one of our two residential halls. Richard L. Conolly Hall is a 16-story building of standard, suite, and apartment spaces for first-year, sophomore, and junior class residents. All Conolly students residing in standard and suites rooms are required to enroll in the Carte Blanche meal plan. Seniors and graduate students live in apartments at our Fulton Street residence.
All residence areas offer free internet and cable, study lounges, recreation rooms, TV lounges, laundry rooms, 24 hours/day security officers, and dedicated professional and paraprofessional staff. All residential spaces come with a bed, desk, desk chair, dresser, wardrobe unit/closet, AC, and personal digital safe.

490 Fulton Street Residence Hall is a 10-month residence hall reserved for graduate students and features fully furnished four, five, and six bedroom apartments units. Every apartment is fully furnished with new appliances, full kitchen, and private bathroom within the apartment. Utilities, cable, internet, heat, and air conditioning are included in your rent. The building has numerous study suites, spacious gaming and recreation areas where you can watch videos or play video games on one of our many flat screen televisions, or shoot pool.Check out the room floor plans.
Richard L. Conolly Hall is a 16-story building that offers standard residence hall rooms with a shared bathroom, suites which come equipped with a private bathroom, and apartments with a private bathroom and full kitchen. All rooms include an extra-long twin sized bed, desk, desk chair, dresser, wardrobe unit/closet, air conditioning & heat. Public safety officers are also onsite 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Living on-campus means you are close to everything including campus dining. In the lobby of Conolly you will find our premier dining call, Shark Bite Café.
LIU offers multiple meal plan options and dining locations to meet the needs of your busy lifestyle.
Options include:
Meal Plan 1
- Unlimited, all-you-care-to-eat access to Shark Bite Cafe. This plan also includes $300 Dining Dollars for use at any facility on campus.
Meal Plan 2
- 14 meals per week at Shark Bite Cafe
Meal Plan 3
- 10 meals per week at Shark Bite Cafe
As a supplemental option, you may add $200 in Dining Dollars to your plan before the add/drop date and have it billed to your student account.
Commuter Options
Commuter students can sign up for $300 dining dollar or $200 dining dollars+
Resident students receive a meal plan as part of your room and board fees. LIU Brooklyn offers multiple dining services and locations to meet the needs of your busy lifestyle. You may also add money to your Dining Card online.
Options include:
- Meal Plan 1 allows you unlimited, all-you-can-eat access to Blackbird Cafe. You will be able to find everything from breakfast to soups and sandwiches. This plan also includes $300 Dining Dollars for use at any facility on campus.
- Meal Plan 2 includes 14 meals per week plus $300 Dining Dollars for use at any dining facility on campus.
- Meal Plan 3 includes 10 meals per week plus $300 Dining Dollars for use at any facility on campus.
- Residential Dining Dollars $300, for students in apartment type rooms only.
As a supplemental option, you may add $200 in dining dollars to your plan before the add/drop date and have it billed to your student account.
Commuter Options
Commuter Plans are geared specifically to give you better dining value for your dollars. Full-time commuter students automatically receive $50 to get them started. Each time you make a food purchase, the total cost of your meal is subtracted from the dollar balance in your account.
Commuter students may also purchase one of our block plan options for increased value:
- The 25 Block Plan gives you 25 meals per semester and $50 in dining dollars.
- The 50 Block Plan gives you 50 meals per semester and $50 in dining dollars.

LIU Brooklyn strives to meet the needs of our busy, on-the-go community with a variety of food vendors in locations across campus. Whether you need a caffeine boost before class or want more substantial sustenance for a long study session, you’ll find healthy, hearty options on campus and at nearby restaurants.
Shark Bite Café
Shark Bite Café offers continuous service during operating hours, and is the perfect late-night hang out. Never worry about running out of meals - with a membership you're always welcome! Students enjoy all-you-care-to-eat dining menu including cutting-edge American entrees, international specialties, vegetarian selections and much more.
Freshens
Freshens offers a variety of smoothies, frozen yogurts, and salads. It is a great place to get energy that tastes great.
P.O.D. Express
Located in Shark Bite, P.O.D. Express is a one-stop shop for students to grab coffee, bottled beverages, pastries, and snacks in between classes and studying. Stop by to pick up all your grocery needs. Now offering new grab-n-go items and kosher options.
Peet's Coffee & Tea
Grab a cup of coffee and some breakfast on the way to class. Or stop by in the afternoon for a snack and cool refreshments.
Living on Campus
How do I apply for on-campus housing?
- Log-in to MyLIU
- Click on “University Housing” icon on the right hand side – Click “Apply for Housing”
- Read and agree to the terms of the Housing Agreement
- Complete your application by submitting a $300 housing deposit vie e-payment at MyLIU or visiting Enrollment Services in person
How should I prepare for room selection?
- Complete Housing Application
- Make the $300 Housing Deposit via e-payment on your MyLIU or in person with Enrollment Services.
- Register for Fall 2020 classes - you must be registered as a full-time student.
- Ensure that your Emergency Contact is up to date in your MyLIU.
- You must be in good financial standing. See your Promise Coach or Enrollment Services for questions regarding this.
- If you have a roommate, you must create a roommate pin prior to room selection day.
What should I bring with me to the residence halls?
While you may want all the comforts of your home, keep in mind that you will be sharing your space with others. The following are suggested items to bring to your new home:
- Extra-long twin sheets
- Blanket/comforter
- Pillows and pillow cases
- Mattresses cover/mattress foam
- Toiletries such as soap, shampoo, toothbrush and toothpaste
- Slippers and/or shower shoes
- Small garbage can/Waste Basket
- Lock box/Safe box
- Wifi router/Ethernet cord
- Hangers
- Cleaning supplies
- Desk lamp
- Broom/Vacuum
- Throw rug
- TV
- Laundry Detergent
Can you tell me about the facilities?
Laundry rooms are open 24/7, as are our study lounges with Internet access. Cafeterias are also located either on the premises or nearby. In Conolly Hall, there is also a lounge on the second floor for all students to use. The lobby floor also houses a mailroom for student packages and letters.
What items are prohibited within the residence halls?
The following items are prohibited. If these are found, there will be a penalty fee, disciplinary action will be taken and item(s) will be confiscated:
- Extension cords
- Halogen lighting equipment
- Electric or gas-powered heaters
- Hot plates, toasters, or any cooking appliances of any nature
- Sandwich makers, toaster ovens
- Candles, incense, smoking and/or drug paraphernalia of any kind
- Flammable decorations such as Christmas lights etc.
- Furniture, television, extra refrigerator or microwave not provided by Residence Life & Housing
- Illegal substances of any nature
- Explosives, fireworks, weapons of any kind, smoke laden materials, and/or instruments
How are rooms/roommates assigned?
All first year students will have the opportunity to meet potential roommates via online roommate matching software or find a potential roommate during one of the Summer Orientation sessions. If a student has a specific roommate request, both students must request each other in order for them to be assigned together. All requests must be done through their MyLIU portal. More detailed information will be sent to the students once the housing application and deposit are submitted.
Depending on available space, some room changes may be accommodated during the summer. Room change requests will not be accommodated until after the third week of class, which allows for an assessment of available space to better assist the student. All room change requests must be submitted to LIU Promise.

What kind of dining options are available?
Sharkbite Cafe
- Students enjoy all-you-care to eat dining in a contemporary dining room. This location, offering cutting-edge American entrees, ethnically inspired food, vegetarian options and a lot more, is the main destination for your campus dining experience!
Peet's Coffee and Tea
- Peets offers premium products that bring the great LIU Dining experience to the next level. Coffee is roasted in small batches with the freshest beans to endure high quality, optimal flavor and aroma. This full functional cafe also offers a variety of artisanal sandwiches, salads, baked goods, and quick snacks.
Freshens Cafe
- Conveniently located in the center of campus, Freshens Cafe serves a variety of smoothies, frozen yogurts, and fresh salads. Freshens also serves up delicious hot and cold wraps and sandwiches as well as some of the best grilled flatbreads around.
What happens to my unused Dining Dollars at the end of the semester?
Your unused dollars transfer from the fall to the spring semester. At the end of the spring semester, any unused dollars are not refundable and cannot be transferred to the new academic year.
What if I'm a commuter? Can I have a Dining Membership?
Absolutely! There are three meal plan options all students, including commuters, can purchase including dining dollars and dining dollars plus.
