Doctor Broholm joined LIU/Brooklyn in 2012 after providing primary care in Brooklyn for 17 years. In the Graduate Program, she teaches the FNP Diagnosis and Management courses, Advance Health Assessment and Primary Care and has taught Health Assessment and Community Clinical in the undergraduate program. The focus of Professor Broholm’s work as a nurse and then nurse practitioner has been on addressing the health needs of traditionally under-served communities.  As an RN, she worked as a public health nurse in a high-risk maternal/infant program. After becoming a Family Nurse Practitioner, Dr. Broholm provided primary care in community health centers serving low-income neighborhoods. Dr. Broholm currently provides urgent care at Callen-Lorde, a Community Health Center caring for the LGBTQ+ communities, where she also worked on the development of a post-graduate nurse practitioner fellowship program in LGBTQ+ health.

Dr. Broholm is founder and past Chair of the Diversity Special Interest Group in NONPF (the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties) which has the goal of developing tools and resources for NP faculty to address health disparities and implicit bias in their institutions and to promote student and faculty diversity. She serves on the National Minority Quality Forum (NMQF) Scientific Advisory Board for the Cancer Stage Shifting Initiative to advance cancer equity for minoritized populations. Her current area of scholarship is on educational strategies to increase awareness about health disparities and bias, and reduce implicit bias among health care providers.
