PhD in Public Policy from the Milano School of International Affairs, Management, and Urban Policy at The New School

Description

Ryan Buck, PhD joined Long Island University in August 2019 as the Dean of Richard L. Conolly College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, which includes the School of Education and the School of Arts and Communication. He is an advocate of experiential learning, interdisciplinary approaches to education, and the co-creation of collaborative and inclusive environments that supports student success in the classroom, in the lab, and beyond. For the last two decades, Dr. Buck has led diverse initiatives to develop sustainable institutional partnerships that increase research collaborations, improve educational outcomes, expand faculty and student mobility, and enhance education abroad programs.

Dr. Buck earned a PhD in Public Policy from the Milano School of International Affairs, Management, and Urban Policy at The New School. He has an MA in International Politics and Volunteer Management from the University of North Texas and a BA in History and Political Science. During graduate school he received funding from the Johnie Christian Family Peace Studies Scholarship at the University of North Texas, to support his internship with a nongovernmental organization that served international refugees in the Czech Republic. His research interests include civic engagement, global education, international politics, education policy, and veterans’ policy (GI Bill).  Dr. Buck served in the United States Peace Corps in the Russian Far East as a Community Educator in English as a Second Language and Information Technology.

While Vice President of the Texas International Education Consortium (TIEC) he designed programs to build teacher-capacity in the Middle East that were funded by the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs. Dr. Buck designed multi-institutional development projects on Youth Entrepreneurship in Latin American funded by the U.S. Department of State. He designed and implemented education programs to enhance Communication and Leadership skills for engineering students in Mexico and the U.S. funded by the 100,000 Strong in the Americas and Exxon Mobil.

Working with a broad spectrum of stakeholders, Dr. Buck as the Assistant Vice President for International Affairs at Texas State University, enhanced the international profile and reputation of the university and directed the Texas State Intensive English Program, the Office of Study Abroad, the International Office, and the Office of Latin American Engagement. The Latin American Engagement initiatives focused on Mexico, Ecuador, Colombia, and Chile.

During his tenure as the Director of the Brooklyn College Student Center, Dr. Buck worked with faculty and student leaders to design experiential learning opportunities and develop new revenue generating enterprises to fund innovative student programming.

With a commitment to student development and engagement, Dr. Buck served as Executive Director of International Student Affairs at Brooklyn College of the City University of New York. His portfolio included International Student and Scholar Services, International Education and Global Engagement (study abroad), international marketing and outreach, international admissions, and the American Language Academy. Much of his work focused on China, Saudi Arabia, France, and the Netherlands.
