Description
Dr. Dewan joined Long Island University in 2020 as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy. Dr. Dewan is a licensed physical therapist, a passionate educator and an active researcher. He completed his physical therapy education in India and his PhD in Rehabilitation Science from TTUHSC, Texas. Dr. Dewan is primarily responsible for teaching courses in the Movement Analysis series in the DPT program. Dr. Dewan’s research interests focus on optimizing the rehabilitation interventions in patients with dysfunction of balance and gait through the understanding of neural and biomechanical mechanisms underlying the control of movements. He utilizes dedicated research space within the Department of Physical Therapy that features state-of-the-art technology for motion analysis, including a 3D motion capture system, force platform and wireless surface electromyography, to perform kinematic, kinetic and electromyographic analyses of normal and pathological human movements.
Specialties
Biomechanics, Motor Control, Neurological Physical Therapy, Research Methods in Postural Control and Gait, Hydration of the Intervertebral Disc
