Description
I completed my PhD degree at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in nursing research and graduated in May 2019. My research project titled, Exploring Maternal Factors Linked to Weight Status in Salvadoran Infants, examined maternal physiologic factors, and infant feeding practices and behaviors, that are potentially associated with infant weight status > 85th percentile in Salvadoran mother-infant dyads. I embrace a teaching pedagogy that is challenging yet conducive to learning by encouraging students to set high educational goals to reinforce the importance of “life-long learning.” I have been a dedicated health care professional in Maternal-Child nursing for over 30 years, first as a staff nurse in the acute care setting, and then as a Certified Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner as a per diem clinician providing family planning, STI services, and specialized care in women’s health at Planned Parenthood HP.
I recently completed 15 years of teaching as a full-time, nursing faculty in an AS program on Long Island, New York. In fall 2019, I began teaching at LIU Brooklyn in the School of Nursing as full-time tenure-track Associate Professor.
