WHY SEEK PERSONAL COUNSELING?
People come for counseling to talk to about, and find solutions to, things that are distressing or that get in the way of healthy living.
The Center is dedicated to inclusiveness and welcomes everyone, and all kinds of students benefit from our services.
Some of the topics a person can get help for include:
Personal concerns interfering with schoolwork
Stress over family, school, or social problems
Loneliness, anxiety, or depressed mood
Problems in relationships
Adjusting to a new culture or living situation
An unhealthy lifestyle
Other personal issues
HOW CONFIDENTIAL IS IT?
Services provided by Long Island University Psychological Services are confidential. No one in the University, outside of the Psychological Services staff, is aware of who uses our services nor does anyone else in the University have access to any information that is discussed. The only exception to this is in the rare case of clear and imminent danger to self or others. Confidentiality is carefully safeguarded.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
All services are free of charge to LIU Brooklyn students.
SHOULD I TELL A FRIEND?
Even if you’re not struggling with personal issues right now, you may well have a friend who is feeling stressed out or unhappy from personal issues. It could be really helpful to let them know that there’s a place on campus where they can talk with someone objective in a supportive and confidential environment.
