Description
Nancy Brier was born and raised in Scottsdale, Arizona. After receiving her BFA specializing in modern dance performance and choreography from Arizona State University, she relocated to New York City where she performed with modern choreographers including Frank Ashley and Lenore Latimer. She received her Master's degree specializing in dance from New York University and is Certified in Laban Movement Studies, encompassing Laban Movement Analysis, Bartenieff Fundamentals and Motif Notation. In the midst of 18 teaching tours of France, the French Ministry of Culture and La Federation Française de Danse presented her with an honorary doctoral equivalent, ProfesseurAgrege, recognizing her as one of the notable jazz and modern dance educators responsible for bringing these American art forms to France. Shortly after joining the Dance faculty of LIU Post, she and colleague Cheryl Halliburton-Beatty received two consecutive LIU Retention Grants to create and develop the resident Post Concert Dance Company. In addition to being its Co-Founder, she served as PCDC's Co-Director for over a decade. She also served as Company Director for Circle of Dance Repertory Company (Huntington, NY) for seven of her 15 year tenure with them as Resident Choreographer, facilitating the company's growth into performing in New York City venues. In addition to LIU Post, she has taught on the Dance faculties of Adelphi University, SUNY Old Westbury, Nassau Community College, Centre Regional Education Physique et des Sports (Montpellier, France) and on the assistant faculty of Laban/Bartenieff Institute of Movement Studies. Having created a large body of concert dance works, which have been performed throughout New York City and its metropolitan area, Italy, France, The Czech Republic and on the Metro Arts Thirteen and Metro Stories television networks, she plans to continue with her recent direction of creating dances based on exploring the beauty of the natural world and the fragile relationships and connections between humans and nature.
