Description
After graduating from Long Island University/Brooklyn with an M.B.A. and an M.S. in Community Health, I worked for 20 years in IT for financial services and direct marketing firms. I changed gears and went back to school, getting a degree in Health Information Technology at Suffolk Community College and earning a Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT) credential in 2010. After graduation I spent two years running the Health IT federal grant program at Suffolk Community College which offered 6 online courses to anyone with an IT or healthcare background. The goal of the federal program was to train workers for electronic health record (EHR) implementation and training. The HITECH Act which provided the money for the training, specified that all health care providers that get reimbursement from the federal government through programs like Medicare and Medicaid must have an approved EHR by 2014. In 2016 I earned a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) credential.
