Description

Michael Katz, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Clinical Psychology Doctoral Program at LIU Post. Dr. Katz received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Adelphi University and completed a clinically focused fellowship at Mount Sinai Hospital's WTCMHP, working with 9/11 responders, where he developed a clinical interest in working with trauma. He then worked at Sinai Hospital providing psychotherapy to medical school students, residents, and graduate school students, before joining LIU.  Dr. Katz's research work and his lab at LIU, the Psychotherapy, Intergration, and Emotion (PIE) lab, integrate psychodynamic/psychoanalytic roots with empirical methodologies and an emphasis on clinical utility and integration. His focus is on two main areas: 1) Variations in psychotherapy techniques (both dynamic and cognitive-behavioral) and their relationship to treatment process and outcome; 2) Crying in psychotherapy and its relation to treatment process and patient attachment. He is also interested in grief and psychotherapy for grieving patients.
