Description
Dr. Minge was the first to publish research using behavioral psychology to teach self-help skills to students with severe cognitive impairments. He also demonstrated the importance of psychotherapeutic/counseling readiness early in his career as a clinical psychologist. These and other research efforts led him to move from a professorship in psychology to education, as he recognized the vital role teachers could play in alleviating children's problems. Dr. Minge was instrumental in establishing the Special Education Department at the C.W. Post Campus, served as the first chairperson of the Campus' Department of Curriculum and Instruction, and has played a pivotal role in the development of numerous courses. He has authored or co-authored two books and numerous research articles on various subjects including the recognition of college facilities, reasons for short-term employment in state programs for mentally ill persons, the effectiveness of a special teacher preparation program at C.W. Post and the effectiveness of study policies. He has been the co-director of a major program providing psychoeducational services throughout metropolitan New York.
