Dr. Vinaya Sampath is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical, Health and Nutritional Sciences at Long Island University-Post from Jan. 2018. At LIU-Post, Dr. Sampath teaches a wide range of undergraduate and graduate courses for Allied Health Programs under the umbrella of School of Health Professions and Nursing. Some of the courses she has taught recently include BMS90-Microbiology in the Health Sciences, BMS211-Pathophysiology I for undergraduates, BMS656-Molecular Diagnostics, BMS550-Clinical Biochemistry, BMS703-Research Methods, BMS673-Molecular Biology of Cancer. She also maintains an active research interest in understanding host-microbe interactions in Gram-negative human pathogens. As a postdoctoral researcher at Stony Brook University, Dr. Sampath was interested in understanding the role for outer membrane vesicles secreted by human pathogen, Francisella tularensis and the genetic regulation of silencing in the yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The Sampath lab is accepting undergraduate and graduate students interested in microbiology research. Apart from teaching and research, Dr. Sampath is an active member of the LIU-Post Institutional Review Board (IRB), Scholarship and Financial Aid Committee and other departmental committees.
