Description

Dr. Baichun Xiao joined the Long Island University Post faculty as a full professor in Management in 1998 and in 2007, was awarded the title of Senior Professor in recognition of his scholarly contributions to the field of Management Science and Operations Management. Prior to joining LIU, he was professor and chairman of the Computing and Decision Sciences Department at Seton Hall University. Dr. Xiao received his B.S. in Mathematics from Nanjing University, an MBA from Catholic University of Leuven, and his Ph.D. in Management Science from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.

His scholarship in the areas of Operations Management, Service Management, Revenue Management, and Optimization has been published in many top-tier journals, including Management Science, Operations Research, Mathematical Programming, IEEE Transactions, European Journal of Operational Research, Decision Sciences, and Advances in Applied Probability. Approved for candidacy of Fulbright Specialist Scholar for the period 2011-2015, he was awarded multiple research grants from Spain’s National Ministry of Innovation and Science to join the MIT-Zaragoza Logistics Center as a visiting professor in 2012. In 2009, he was named Professor of the Year in the College of Management at LIU Post. Dr. Xiao had previously been honored as Outstanding Researcher in the College of Management at LIU Post, as well as at Seton Hall University and the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

In addition to his research and teaching at LIU, Dr. Xiao has been a distinguished visiting professor or guest professor at leading universities worldwide including Peking University, Tsinghua University, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Fudan University, and Nanjing University. He served as Director of Service Management Institute at Sichuan University from 2000 to 2005 and Director of Center for Service Operations Management at Southwest Jiaotong University from 2005 to 2010. Recently he received Outstanding Teaching Award from Peking University for his summer teaching in the period of 2010-2012.

Dr. Xiao is a member of the Board of Trustees of Nanjing University, and serves as an independent non-executive director of Biostime International. As chair of the Department of Management, he works with a faculty of 12 research scholars, as well as other experienced instructors, in the development and delivery of cutting-edge courses in management, operations management, strategy and entrepreneurship.
