Description
Professor Susan Zeig is a documentary filmmaker focusing on issues of social concern. Her current work leads from the decades of dismal graduation rates in many urban neighborhoods, and how communities are working to turn this around. Her recent film A Community Concern has been screened in hundreds of community and educational settings as well as on PBS in cities such as San Francisco, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Washington D.C. Chicago, Boston, and Detroit. Other work includes Plena is Work, Plena is Song, shown on PBS as part of POV, and in the Alan Lomax Collection of the Smithsonian; and Manos A La Obra: The Story of Operation Bootstrap, shown on PBS and cable. She has received grants for these projects from the C.S. Mott Foundation, the Ford Foundation, the Surdna Foundation, the Barr Foundation, the Irvine Foundation, The Nellie Mae Foundation, the California Endowment, the Stuart Foundation, the Walter and Elise Hass Fund, the Rockefeller Foundation, National Latino Communications Center, New York Foundation on the Arts, National Endowment for the Humanities, National Endowment for the Arts, New York State Council on the Humanities, New York State Council for the Arts, the Film Fund, and the Research Committee of Long Island University. She serves as the Director of the Film Program at LIU Post.
Zeig has recently screened her work and been an invited speaker at the San Francisco Film Society, Harvard School of Education, Rutgers University, WNET Celebration of Teaching and Learning, California State University, Brooklyn College School of Education, Communities for Public Education Reform Convening, Temple University, Wellesley College, CUNY Graduate School of Education, Grantmakers for Education Conference, 2010 Give Kids Good Schools Week Conference, LaGuardia Community College, New York University, Bronx Youth Forum to End School Overcrowding, and Communities for Excellent Public Schools Legislative Hearing.
