Description

Dr. Jonathan Procter earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Family Studies from Ohio University, his Master of Science in Behavior Analysis from Swansea University in Wales, and his Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from Ohio University.  His dissertation explored the impact Religious Fundamentalism plays within counselor trainee’s development of multicultural counseling competencies and empathy towards the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) communities in master level counseling students.
Dr. Procter is independently licensed as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) within the state of Texas, a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) in Ohio, and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) within the State of New York.  In addition to his licenses, he is certified nationally as a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC), a National Certified Counselor (NCC) through the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC) and has met national professional supervision standards through the center for credentialing and education, which grants him the status as an Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS).  In addition, through the National Board of Certified Counselors International (NBCC-I), he is a mental health facilitator—most recently providing services in St. Lucia.  Dr. Procter has worked extensively with in-patient forensics crisis intervention populations and out-patient community mental health.  Most recently, he served as the Clinical Director at Lamar University providing supervision of counselor trainees and services to underserved populations facing multiple levels of oppression in Southeast Texas.  


Specialties

His research interests include multicultural counseling competency development in counselor trainees, psychiatric rehabilitation, Relational Frame Theory (RFT) as it applies to Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and research across the lifespan for members identifying with the LGBT communities.  Dr. Procter’s most recent research explored Counselor Educator’s presence within the asynchronous classroom.  In edition, he contributed to nine book chapters, one textbook, and is currently co-authoring a book chapter exploring supervision within Rehabilitation Counseling.  Dr. Procter continually presents at the local, state, and national level.  As a Counselor Educator, he is dedicated to mentoring and developing a student’s professional identify as a Counselor.  As such, students are regularly included in current research and presentations.  Dr. Procter remains active within the American Counseling Association (ACA) and the subdivisions including the Association for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Issues in Counseling (ALGBTIC), the Association for Specialists in Group Work (ASGW), and the American Mental Health Counselors Association (AMHCA).
